TIDE 2002 Video

IP Video Conferencing - Possibilities

A student once said to me that she didn't need a modem to take an online class, because after all it came through the air! You know, like TV!! Now we are into wireless networks and this may be truer than ever.

What is TV nowadays? Is it one way video, two way audio? Is it two way video? Is it two way video on your desktop? Is it ISDN? Is it IP?

This session will demo IP video and desktop conferencing, as well as Net Meeting. I will share with you the uses of video in Academic Learning Centers and in Conferences.

Last summer our PT3 statewide grant ran a summer institute at a distance. The opening session was with IP video with co-keynoters at sites 300 miles apart and participants spread out of a 800 spread. After the opening session (synchronous), there were two days of asynchronous online activities. Then the closing synchronous session, which was done with one way audio across the web. It is still archived and you can here lucyonline's one hour presentation and see all the participants comments logged from the chat box.
